THE GGF FOOD PHILOSOPHY

My food philosophy is all about balance.

• As the ancient Greeks said: “pan metron ariston” (everything in moderation).

• We each need to find our own unique balance.

• There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to food and health.

Eat things as close as possible to how nature intended.

• Organic, local and GMO-free as much as possible. If not possible, don’t let it be a source of stress. Do what you can. Maybe try growing something yourself?

• When consuming animal products, make conscious and compassionate choices. Choose pasture-raised/free-range as much as possible – better for the animals, and better for you. Just because an animal will end up feeding us in one way or another, that’s no reason for it not to be treated as well as is possible until it does.

• Avoid processed foods – do the processing yourself in your own kitchen by cooking from scratch as much as you can.

• “If it's made in the lab then it takes a lab to digest” (Kris Carr, Hungry For Change, www.FMTV.com).

No extremes please!

• Don’t force yourself into extreme regimes or cutting out entire food groups. (Doing this for a short time in order to determine intolerances/reactions is one thing, but once symptoms stabilise, it’s good to try and reintroduce certain nutritious foods back into your diet, to ensure a variety of nutrients, and tastes).

• If something makes you feel bad, just don’t eat it!

• Avoid/cut down on the most commonly-problematic foods (gluten, dairy, refined sugar) - occasional indulgences can be ok, regular use may hurt you.

• What is important is not what you do all the time, but what you do most of the time.

Feed the body, mind and soul.

• Eat a variety of nutrient-dense foods, keep things interesting.

• Give your body the fuel it needs to heal and be healthy and strong.

• “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” – Hippocrates.

• Make each meal as health-promoting as possible.

• Food and eating is one of life’s greatest pleasures – enjoy your food, and don’t let ‘healthy eating’ become stressful or it will defeat the purpose.

• Don’t feel deprived – experiment with alternatives/replacements for things you miss or crave.

• Healthy body = healthy mind = healthy body.

Do your best, that is enough.
